How to Clean Gold
Pour a few drops of liquid detergent into a bowl of warm water. Mix it gently so that the water does not spill. Make sure to mix all of the detergent. Don’t use hot or boiling water because it may crack some precious stones such as opals.
Soak the gold jewellery in your home made solution. Soak it in the water for about 15 minutes. While the jewellery is soaking, the water will go into the cracks so that it cleans hard to reach areas.
Gently scrub the toothbrush with a soft bristle toothbrush. Make sure to scrub each piece individually, paying very close attention to the small places where dirt might be hidden. Using a soft brush is important because a hard brush may scratch the gold. If the piece is gold plated, stiff bristles may take the whole layer off entirely.
Rinse each piece of gold in warm running water. A solid rinsing will help remove all the lingering dirt that’s been loosened by your brush.
Blot dry the jewellery with a soft cloth. After drying it, let the gold air dry before wearing it again. If you put on wet jewellery it can irritate your skin leading to a minor rash.
