How to prevent flood damage.

There have been many heavy rain falls in the past few years and floods have been happening in many basements everywhere. This has left residents mopping up floods in their basements. With the fall season dawning upon us, expect some heavy rainfall in the next couple of months. Here are a few tips and tricks to avoid most of the flooding that may happen. Check your gutters and downspouts to make sure that they are properly diverting rainwater away from your home. Also make sure to check that there are no leaves or debris that may cause a blockage in them. Consider installing a backup generator or battery pack for your sump pump. In case the electricity ever goes out the backup generators will help keep the sump pump running and pumping out excess water out of your basement. After a heavy rainfall make sure to check your basement for any excess water or moisture around the walls and corners of the basement. If you see anything out of the ordinary, do not wait and call in a professional company right away to avoid any further problems. Another tip is to keep all of your belongings 6 inches off the ground so that in case of a flood nothing will get damaged. With these little hints and tricks, you can avoid some big problems with your basement and paying thousands of dollars to fix it.

Remember to check your basement carpet for any moisture after heavy rainfall. If carpet is wet for longer than 72 hours mold will start to grow.
