How to remove grass stains from your carpet.

When you spend quite a bit of time outside, have kids, cut the grass, or do anything else involving the outdoors, grass stains on your carpets are inevitable. You do not notice when the stain happens and are unaware that you would be making a stain. When grass is stuck on the bottom of your shoes and you walk across a carpet there will be grass stains when you look back at it. The best way to take our grass stains is with ammonia based spot cleaner. Grab a clean, unbleached cloth and dab it in the cleaner. Blot the stains on your carpet several times and then leave it alone and do not walk on it. The stain remover will automatically start working by breaking down the stain and dirt in the carpet. Wait a couple hours, and check if the stain remover is working like it is supposed to be working. When you see the stains slowly disappearing, blot them again lightly and gently and leave it alone for another few hours. By doing this process 2-3 times should be enough to remove the stains. If you see no improvement after doing this process a couple time it is time to call in a professional carpet cleaning company to remove the stains for you. And remember: Always test on an inconspicuous area first to make sure solution won't damage your carpet or area rug.

How to remove scuff marks.

Realistically anything can cause scuff marks. Shoes, furniture, ladders, and just about any other item with a hard rubber bottom. These marks are messy and unattractive, and they appear on most types of hardwood flooring over time. Here are a few different way to remove scuff marks simply, easily and cost efficiently. A small scuff can be erased with a plain old eraser. Just rub the eraser on the scuff mark until it disappears. If you have lighter flooring try to find a white eraser because a pink one may cause residue. Another good remover is simply a tennis ball. For small smudges just attach the tennis ball too a broom stick and just rub it on the scuff mark. After you finish this the tennis ball will be dirty so try not to play with it around the house. Another option is covering it in baking soda and vinegar. Wait a little but until it makes a paste and then let it sink in. Wait about 10 minutes and then rub it off with a paper towel or cloth. Lastly, you can use a regular toothbrush to take away the scuff mark. You can apply any type of toothpaste and then brush the mark in a circular motion. You can either use a toothbrush or a cloth. When you're done use a wet cloth to wipe away the excess toothpaste. Using these methods should get rid of most of your scuff marks fairly simply and easily. And remember: Always test on an inconspicuous area first.

Cleaning up pet urine

Many pet owners have to deal with urine stains all the time. Sometime their pets can hold it and just go inside the home or any other reasons. Regardless, no one wants to deal with the smell of pet urine because let's face it, it's disgusting. Once your pet has urinated onto the carpet, it starts to attract bacteria which is what causes the odor. If you don't clean it up correctly your pet will return to the same spot and urinate again since they can smell it. This problem is something you can't take lightly, because the urine can soak through the carpet, and down into the underpad. Make sure to clean up the stain immediately. If you noticed it after it has dried out, use water and vinegar to make the spot wet again. Soak up as much liquid as you can using a clean dry towel and applying downwards pressure. If there is still a bit that you cannot get out, stand on the towel until no more moisture appears on the towel. It is important to clean all of the bacteria that comes with the stain using a carpet cleaning product that cleans that up. It is usually an antibacterial solution that kills the bacteria and neutralizes the odor. And remember: Always test on an inconspicuous area first to make sure solution won't damage your particular carpet.

Helpful tips to prevent frozen pipes and water damage

One of the worst things to happen over the winter is having frozen pipe damage. This damage can be very costly and can make winter more miserable than it already is. Here are a few ways to keep your pipes from freezing over the winter. Firstly, you can leave the water trickling so that there is always constant water flowing through your pipes. Make sure it is just a trickle because if you leave a stream it can raise your utility bills. You can also open the doors under the sink to let warm air in, so that it also helps keep the pipes unfrozen. If you have any water connections outside, make sure to close off the water so that there is no extra water in the pipes while it isn't being used in the winter. If your pipes have been frozen do not attempt to thaw them yourself. Do not use any electrical appliances or heaters to try and thaw them because that may cause even more damage rather than helping the situation. Call your local plumber and have him assess the situation. If you end up with frozen pipes in your home, don't panic and just call the local plumber to solve this issue. Make sure to leave it alone and not attempt to fix it yourself unless you know exactly how to and are trained.

How to keep your hardwood floors in top shape through the winter

Winter is a harsh season and it causes all kinds of damage. It can dry out your skin, increase your bills at home, and cause unnecessary damage to your home. If you want your hardwood floors to look good during the winter, humidity is your best friend. In the summer everyone complains about the humidity, but in the winter in order to keep your hardwood floors fresh, you need to use humidifier for them. Getting a whole home humidifier would be the solution to your problems. Here is how it works. A whole humidifier attaches to your furnace and distributes moisture into your home. It will stabilize the humidity in your home by providing a constant flow of moisture, to prevent cracking and expanding of the hardwood flooring. This will make the floors look great throughout the whole winter and keep it in good condition for years. It would be a better option to get a whole humidifier because portable humidifiers would not do the job properly. First of all it is dangerous to run a portable humidifier when no one is at home. Also, depending on how many rooms you may have, you will need to get more than one portable machine. Running all of these at once would increase your energy bill, and no one really wants that. So stick with the whole humidifier and make sure your floors are not damaged during the winter.

Firstly, exposing your leather furniture to direct sunlight is not the greatest idea. Sunlight can fade your leather and change the color of it so something completely different and will look extremely ugly. Sunlight can also crack and dry out your leather furniture too. Simply speaking, to avoid all of this unnecessary damage, make sure to not put leather in direct sunlight. Secondly, make sure to treat stains the moment they happen. How to properly care for an indoor/outdoor carpet.

The indoor/outdoor carpets are usually made to last longer, they too get dirty and require periodic cleaning. Here are some helpful tips to keep these kinds of carpets clean. Since these types of carpets are usually stain proof, oil spills will do the trick. Oil based spills will cling to the fibers of the carpet and will not budge. If you have a lighter colored carpet, an oil based spill will appear in a murky grey color. If you want to get rid of the stain, clean the spot with either stain remover or a mixture of one part want and one part vinegar solution. This is one of the few homemade mixtures that you should really use to clean a stain. Even though it may appear as if you removed the stain, these types of stains stick in the carpets at the bottom. That is why after removing the stain, wait for it to dry and then vacuum the carpet a couple time to get all of the dirt and grime out from the bottom of it. Just don't forget to vacuum the spots after taking out the stains, or you will have them back when it rains, or the carpet gets wet. And remember: Always test on an inconspicuous area first to make sure solution won't damage your carpet or area rug.

Common mistakes usually made while cleaning.

People have been cleaning for as long as we could remember, but does that mean that they have been doing it right all this time. Just because the stain has disappeared does not mean that it has fully been removed.  A common mistake that is always being made is people tend to scrub the stain. Do not scrub any types of stains because that causes damage to your carpets and can harm it long term. Make sure to always blot the stain to clean it. When you scrub anything on the carpet, the carpet fibers start to untangle and overtime make a hole in your carpet. After blotting the stain for a good 2 minutes let it sit for a bit. Blot it again and then leave it for about 10 minutes. After that, spray some stain remover onto the carpet and wait for it to soak in and start working. Use a paper towel and blot the stain after about 20 minutes, and that should remove it completely. If it is still there, call your local Toronto carpet cleaning company to come in and take care of the problem.

Why professional carpet cleaning companies are important to your carpets life time.

When owning a carpet in your home, it is important to take care of it the way it is supposed to be taken care of. Of course it is always good to vacuum it weekly, remove the stains that you could get out, and make sure not to walk across it with dirty shoes. By doing all this should keep your carpet pretty clean, but we recommend cleaning the carpet professionally at least once a year. Trained, professional carpet cleaners know how to prolong the life expectancy of your carpets and make sure that they will look and smell fresh and like new. They have proper equipment to make sure that all this can be possible. A truck mounted machine is a huge help because it heats the water the its boiling point and gives your carpet a very deep clean to make it look and smell as if it was bought the day before. Most companies know exactly what to do to make sure that your carpet is properly maintained and kept at its peak for as long as possible. Make sure not to leave your carpet dirty for a long period of time, because the stains will seep into it and overtime will be very hard to take out. Whenever you see a stain, dirt, or spots that you can't clean yourself, call a professional carpet cleaning company and they will take care of the problem for you.

How to preserve the life of your home

Many people love to walk into a house that does not look dirty, smell nice and have a clean carpet. When carpets are dirty it can damage the whole look of the home and not be as pleasant to be in. You can start off by vacuuming at least 3 times a week to make sure that the carpets at least look nice from another point of view. This also helps eliminate anything stuck on the top of the carpets such as dust, dirt, and other particles. Remember that you can never over vacuum your carpet. Another big one is removing shoes when walking inside the house. Many people simply do not want to remove their shoes when inside their homes and this can cause a huge problem. Dirt and other particles can get tracked into the house which will make the carpet that much dirtier a lot faster. It's as simple as walking into your house and taking your shoes off before actually going into the home. All it takes is to purchase a mat or a small rug at the front of your home so that you can take off your shoes when entering.

Rug cleaning options

There are two different types of options that companies offer when cleaning your rugs. The first option is to clean the rug on site which usually is not the suggested route to take. Cleaners would come in and just steam clean the rug and leave it to dry on site. The second option would be to take the rug to a professional rug cleaning warehouse where they would clean the rugs on site. They make sure to wash it, shampoo it, and take care of it the whole way while it is being cleaned and being dried. They will take the utmost care of your rugs and return it to you whenever the drying process is finished. Make sure to call a professional carpet cleaning company when wanting rug cleaning because it is not recommended to try and clean your rugs yourself. You would not achieve the same result and it would just be a huge hassle for you.

How should you clean your carpets as a business.

When having a business, the last thing you want are your employees complaining about the working conditions. In order to improve work efficiency and productivity, employees like to be working in a nice, healthy environment. When you have many employees walking on the carpets, this causes the color of the carpets to fade, the style to change and the quality of your carpet go down. This will make the office look dirty which will demote work efficiency and have the employees starting to complain. Not only that, but it  can also be a health hazard as it becomes filled with germs, bacteria and other unpleasant surprises. You also would not want potential customers walking into a dirty office, because that would just make them have a bad first impression. We believe that as an office owner, you should be get  carpet cleaning at least twice a year if not more depending on how many employees you may have. Clean carpets just change the whole look of the office. This would give employees a reason to come to work and not complain and just sit at home calling in sick. Believe it or not many employees hate working in poor conditions. If you would like a free estimate just give vivid cleaning a call and we will come down and give you a free estimate on site with no obligation.

Why trained carpetcleaning technicians.

When it comes to professional carpet cleaning, training the cleaners matter. Many companies claim that their professionals, but it does not mean that they know what they are doing. Many technicians have been trained on paper, but never really trained in the field. In order to be properly trained in the field, technicians need to go through hands on training and real life experience and jobs. They start off by completing a small amount of jobs and when they are fully trained they go to bigger projects and carpets. It takes a lot of tie and hard work to be fully trained in the industry of carpet cleaning. Many cleaners claim to be trained, but they just go out rent the equipment, use it for a specific job and then return it. These types of cleaners do not really know what they are doing and when asked hard questions they do not know the answers to them. When hiring a professional carpet cleaning company, make sure to ask them specific questions about your carpets and you will be able to tell right away whether or not they know what they are doing and talking about.

Tile and grout cleaning tips

Here are a few tile and grout cleaning tips to have your tiles looking cleaner than before. When cleaning your tiles many people are unaware that regular brushes will not clean the grout lines. Make sure to use a grout brush to clean the grout in between the tiles. Even after a regular tile clean the grout will still be dirty and will not look good. The grout brush will provide a deeper clean into the grout and will look nice. Secondly always make sure to sweep first before cleaning your tiles. Never mop the tiles without sweeping first because all the dirt and dust will end up in you grout lines. Do yourself a favor and start your tile cleaning with a good sweep first. After cleaning the tiles make sure to soak up all of the excess water. If you don't do this the excess water can go into your grout lines and make them look dirty again. It does not have to be totally dry, but dry enough so that there is no excess water on the floor. These can be easily done by using a dry towel and soaking up the water.

How long to wait before your carpets are fully dry. | Carpet cleaning drying time.

Many customers want to have their carpets cleaning, but are hesitant to do so because of the dry time of the carpets or simply a bad experience. If the carpet stays wet for more than 48 hours it starts giving off a bad smell and it is very unpleasant to the home owner. The carpet cleaning companies have to make sure to leave the carpets somewhat dry before they leave the job. They have to set up air movers so that the air gets blown through the room in order to dry the carpet faster. Even before they set up air movers, they have to make sure that they are leaving the carpet dry enough so that it can continue drying over the next hours and can be fully dry in about 2-8 hours. When the carpet is dried properly, it smells amazing, looks amazing and you will not have any problems with it. We at Vivid cleaning know how to do the job right. What carpet is best if you have allergies.

Carpets have been the most popular floor covering for many years. People have been using carpets to cover up old flooring, tiles, or just like the feel of a carpet in the home. Carpets feel amazing during cold winter days and feel better than cold tiles any day. One of the problems with carpets is that they contain different materials that some people may be allergic too. So now you ask the question of what  carpet is best for your home? Well let's put it this way. Carpets are not the only cause of allergies in a home. Many people may believe so but it is not true. There are other things that affect allergies in homes such as dogs, people, clothes, smells and natural air movement from the outdoors. These allergens get stuck in the carpet fibers which then goes into the air of your home. There are a couple ways to avoid these problems. Firstly make sure to vacuum your carpet a few times a week. This helps protect it from certain allergens and keeps it clean at the same time. Other than that you can also get your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year. This will remove all the allergens and give your home a fresh scent.

How to extend the life of your carpet.

Here are a few tips and tricks to extend the life of your carpet. First off, you should regularly vacuum your carpet about 2-3 times a week. There may be different types of dirt and dust in the carpet that you are not aware of and will eventually be a pain to clean if you wait too long the vacuum cleaner itself is not that expensive and it takes about 20 minutes to vacuum a carpet properly.

Another tip is to place a walk off mat at all the entrances in your home. This will prevent any tracking from dirty shoes onto a clean carpet.

Always remember to clean up spills the moment they happen. Waiting to clean up a spill may result in color change of the carpet, and can eventually be soaked up permanently into the carpet. The best way to clean up a spill is to blot it with water and a dry cloth.

One of the best tips we can give is to have your carpet cleaned professionally regularly. In high traffic areas, you should be cleaning your carpets every 3-4 months, and in all other areas about once a year. This removes all the soil that is attached in the carpet fibers and makes it look and smell as if it was bought very recently.

Dry carpet cleaning vs. Steam cleaning.

There are two different methods of carpet cleaning that many people are aware about and should get done throughout the year. The first method is dry carpet cleaning. Dry foam shampoo is when you take a low moisture shampoo foam which is whipped around by a reel brush and scrubbed into the carpet. A dry vacuum then removes the shampoo residue and makes sure it does not spoil.

Steam cleaning is a whole different process which is more efficient and works better. This is performed using a truck mounted machine that can heat up the water to boiling temperatures. There is a hose that is attached to the truck mounted machine which is used in the home. Solutions is mixed with boiling water and your carpet is steam cleaned. This takes out all the dirt and grime from your carpet and it ends up looking as if it was bought the day before. It takes a couple hours for the carpet to dry so make sure not to walk on it after the job is finished.

When it comes to wool carpets, dirt tends to sit on top of it so periodically vacuuming it, is a good start. This often prevents the dirt from embedding into the actual carpet.

While vacuuming your carpet will keep it clean, deep cleaning it about once a year will prevent dirt from actually settling into the core of the carpet.

Although wool carpets are usually stronger than most other carpets, it still needs the care you would give to any other carpet. Making sure that it is clean, professionally steam cleaning it about once a year, and constant small care for it will keep it clean and prolong its lifetime for quite some time.

Wool carpets are great for rooms that are dirtier than others. Rooms such as the front of your house or the back where you step in with shoes and track dirt. Make sure when cleaning the carpet, avoid scrubbing the area which is dirty, because it will distress the threads and create fuzzy patches throughout the carpet.

How to Clean Gold. Gold Cleaning DIY

How to Clean Gold

Pour a few drops of liquid detergent into a bowl of warm water. Mix it gently so that the water does not spill. Make sure to mix all of the detergent. Don’t use hot or boiling water because it may crack some precious stones such as opals.

Soak the gold jewellery in your home made solution. Soak it in the water for about 15 minutes. While the jewellery is soaking, the water will go into the cracks so that it cleans hard to reach areas.

Gently scrub the toothbrush with a soft bristle toothbrush. Make sure to scrub each piece individually, paying very close attention to the small places where dirt might be hidden.  Using a soft brush is important because a hard brush may scratch the gold. If the piece is gold plated, stiff bristles may take the whole layer off entirely.

Rinse each piece of gold in warm running water. A solid rinsing will help remove all the lingering dirt that’s been loosened by your brush.

Blot dry the jewellery with a soft cloth. After drying it, let the gold air dry before wearing it again. If you put on wet jewellery it can irritate your skin leading to a minor rash.

How to Clean Silver. DIY

How to Clean Silver.

Apply the corn starch on the piece of jewellery with a damp cloth, let it dry and then use a mildly abrasive piece of cloth such as a rough towel. If you don't have anymore corn start you can substitute it with some cream of tartar.

Hand sanitizer not only is great for fighting germs, but it's also a great silver polisher. Just squirt a few drops on a soft cloth and just rub away the spots to make it shiny again.

Using toothpaste is probably the best way of making clean silver clean. Put a little bit of toothpaste on a cloth and start rubbing the silver. Rinse it and then do the same thing again. Once you rinse it off a second time the silver will be nice and shiny again.

Some trick and hints to clean your bathtub.

Some trick and hints to clean your bathtub.

After a long day of work, some people want to just come home, relax and just soak in the bathtub. When you see a dirty bathtub, even after a long day you probably won't want to get in it. These bathtubs usually attract soap scum, mildew, and grime. The biggest thing it attracts is those pesky stains. Luckily with a few simple ingredients you can make your bathtub look new again.

Firstly, just some basic maintenance. After taking a bath or a shower, rinse the actual tub with warm water, and wipe away the excess moisture with a squeegee cloth.

If you want a deeper clean, pull out the handy dandy white vinegar. Fill a spray bottle with half vinegar and half water. Spray the whole tub surface and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Take a microfiber cloth and just rub it down. Rinse the tub with water again and it should look very clean.

To remove tougher stains, make a paste, which includes half hydrogen peroxide and half baking soda. Rub the paste on the stain and let is sit there for 30 minutes and then wipe away and rinse. If the stain is not fully gone you can repeat the process.

When treating rust stains, you can use a paste of borax powder and some lemon juice. Sprinkle the stain with borax juice and then use the half of the lemon to wipe of the powder off the stain. Keep rubbing until it turns into a paste. Let the paste stand for about 15 minutes and then wipe and rinse.
