Protecting rugs from furniture

Rugs can get damaged by any furniture you place on your rug. Common damage occurs from furniture weight and when furniture can be displaced. In either case the carpet pile is ruined. Most damage can be prevented using simple methods.

The most direct way to take the weight of furniture off your rugs is get an underpad. Pressure bearing underpad will even out weight distribution so that it is not centered on a small area. Another thing to do is get padding cloth for under furniture legs and corners. This will also remove weight pressure.

If your rug is damaged from furniture there are possible corrective methods. Wool rugs can benefit from steaming the area and lightly brushing the pile. If the rug fibers are thinned or worn, rug repair will be necessary.

Overall, it is good practice to rotate your furniture and have your rugs professionally cleaned annually. This will allow weight bearing areas on your carpet to breathe.

Candles and rugs don’t mix

So you happen to get candle wax in your rug? Have you made the stain worse with home remedies? Don’t panic there’s still hope for your beloved rug.

Wax removal isn’t easy but it’s still manageable. Wax based candles are easier to remove. It is advised that the area be chilled with an ice bag first. Using a dull knife lightly chip away at the stain. Remove the wax debris with a vacuum. Repeat until most of the stain comes out.

For the next step you will need paper and an iron. Place the paper over the stain and lightly iron it. Wax should come out gradually. Repeat for as many times as necessary.

Keep in mind that results may vary depending on carpet fibers and wax colour. Vegetable oil based candles may need a different treatment to come out of the rug. It might even require a professional stream cleaning.

Take care to treat the carpet fibers gently. Too much stress can thin the area and need repair.

Carpet warranty.

When buying any type of product, a warranty is essential most of the time. It gives the customer a sense of assurance that they won’t buy a faulty product. If they do they can always exchange it for one that is working or looks better. If a warranty is for any reason voided, the customers will not receive any compensation for a faulty product. Most carpet manufacturers highly recommend regular carpet cleaning services performed using Hot Water Extraction (also called "steam cleaning")
When buying a carpet padding, there are specific details that a manufacturer lays out in order to receive proper usage of the warranty. This includes the density, and thickness of a carpet. When receiving anything for free that comes with package, make sure that the retailer or the seller gives you the right material that is stated under your warranty.

Warranties will always state the proper use of a carpet. If the carpet is misused in any way, the warranty will be voided upon returning it to the retailer. This includes the traffic on the carpet, pet rules or any type of natural light that the carpet receives during its lifetime. Make sure to always read the warranty label, before deciding where to place the carpet in your home.
When returning the carpet, make sure to always return the original receipt. If you don’t have a receipt the odds will be against you. Most likely, the retailer will tell you that there is nothing that they can do and usually not take your carpet for warranty.

Different kinds of carpet pads

Just like carpets, there are different kinds of carpet pads that are placed underneath the carpets for performance and durability. To extend your carpet's and underpads lifetime   regular carpet cleaning services is a must otherwise all the dirt will seep down to the underpad and it will start to deteriorate.
Urethane Foam Pad: When installing carpets, this pad usually avoided because its lack of support to hold up a regular foot in a residential home. Denser versions are usually used, ones that are found in upholstery. If you are looking for the cheapest way out, this is the pad to use.
Rebond Pad: out of all the carpet pads, this choice is one of the most popular. It is made of high density recycled foam, making its durability much better than a lot of other choices. This padding could usually last up to 10 years which is a very lengthy lifetime for a good quality carpet bad.
Waffle Rubber Pad: this specific carpet padding looks very similar to tire tread. The bumps in the pad are filled with air, so they don’t provide the same support and regular rubber pad would give. This type of pad isn’t really recommended because there are cheaper options that do a better job. This type of padding is rarely used while other options are available.

Flat Rubber Pad: This specific pad, is the most expensive and premium on the market and has the best performance. It will hold up anything such as furniture, and very high traffic areas all while maintaining its original softness. This padding will last anywhere up to 15-20 years, and is best suited for people that do not mind paying extra to have their carpet look the best for the longest period of time.

Tips for vacuuming a carpet.

Every vacuum has its advantages, but they also have their own flaws. There are certain types of vacuums that are meant for different types of carpets. when vacuuming a carpet, it is recommended that you use a powerful electric brush to agitate the dirt in the carpet.  Below are some tips for maximizing the effectiveness of the vacuum that you purchase.
Before vacuuming the carpet, go around and pick up all of the loose pieces that are on the carpet. The less dirt the vacuum cleaner has to pick up the better.  Minimize the amount of loose pieces on the carpet.
Scheduled carpet cleaning services is also essential. Try to vacuum your carpet at least once every 2 weeks. High traffic areas require more attention and you will see the difference when having a schedule vacuuming day for your carpets.
Many people think that their vacuums aren’t working properly because it is not picking up the dirt and grime properly. What a lot people miss, is that the attachments are there for specific reason. Different attachments are meant for different types of particles and dirt. If you use the right attachment this should change your opinion of the vacuum. A crevice tool is used for tight spots under large appliances and a small brush is used for furniture and mattresses. A round brush is used for steps and windowsills, and there are 3 different attachments for regular carpets. One important thing to remember is that you have to vacuum the carpet more than once. Vacuuming it one time will not make much of a difference. You have to go through it at least 2-3 times to see the difference.
Make sure to keep your vacuum properly maintained. The electric brush needs to be cleaned out once every few vacuums to maximize the efficiency of the brush. Change the bag every month, and avoid small objects such as pennies, paper clips and paper. This will clog the hoses and damage the fans of the vacuum.

What to consider when purchasing a carpet.

When purchasing a carpet. The price and quality varies from carpet to carpet. When making the judgment, first decide on how much carpet you will actually need. Measure out the exact size of your room a few times to make sure that the measurements are good. If you buy to small of a carpet it will not look good, and adding extra pieces to it does not look as clean as a whole carpet would.

After making sure of the measurements, shop around for a little bit to see where you can get the best price on the market. You have to determine what carpet fits your lifestyle and looks better in your home. Think about the material you want it to be, since they are the biggest factor when it comes to price. Nylon carpets are the cheapest option, but are also the ones that will last the least amount. Think about the bigger picture, and how long you want to keep the carpet for.  And remember to extend your carpet's lifetime you need to schedule regular carpet cleaning services done by a professional.(Once a year)

Installing a carpet.

There are 3 main stage that you have to follow when installing a carpet. The first stage is preparation. Here are the steps you have to follow when installing:
1.      Determine the area of the room: make sure to measure the longest walls in your room. To get the exact measurements, multiply the length and width of the room, and divide that number by 9 to determine the square yardage. Make sure to add 10 percent for pattern matching, and room for errors.
2.      Clean the subfloor: make sure the surface that the carpet is getting installed is smooth and clean. Scrape off any excess paint and compound, and sweep the floor to get rid of all the dust.
3.      Remove all of the doors in the room. Without the doors, it will be easier to work and have leeway for the carpets.
4.      Install tackles wooden strips: Make sure to cut the strips using a strip cutter. Nail the strips ½ an inch from the wall. These come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, so make sure that you are using the right ones.

When installing a carpet, there are many factors that the job includes. Some of the harder issues that it may include are: the size of the room, limited space in the workplace, and an odd shaped flooring. All these occurrences may prove to be a difficult task for the installer. Below, there are some helpful tips and tricks that will make the process of installing  easier.
When first installing, consider using a carpet pad, which doesn’t require any glue or tape to hold it down. When putting down the carpet, perfect to lay down with a  pad already in place.
Before laying down the carpet, install a wooden tack strip which should be nailed to the floor. This strip runs around the whole perimeter of the room and it used to secure the carpet.
After laying down the tack strip, the  pad is installed inside the area of the tack strips. You can also use a piece of tape to cover up the gaps.
Next, the carpeting is laid down in its original position. You will then use a kicker/stretcher to stretch it and secure it to the wooden tacks.
If you follow this process, laying out a carpet should be painless and fairly easy.

The last stage of the installation is the finish stage after which you can schedule carpet cleaning services if the workers left some dirt behind. By following these specific steps, your flooring should look amazing after everything is finished being installed.
1.      After laying down the extra pieces of material to cover the holes, glue the seams together. Make sure to glue them where the edges join. They must be straight in order to glue them properly. After the heating iron is heated, run it along the edges of the 2 pieces of carpet. After the glue is placed, hold the two pieces together until they are stuck together.
2.      Trim around the obstacles. After it is placed, hold it out against the wall and trim the edges for it to fit perfectly against the wall. Use a carpeting knife to trim around the obstacles.
3.      Attach the first edge of the carpet to the tackless strips at one end of the room using a knee kicker. Pat down the edges to the tacks using this kicker.
4.      Stretch the wall to wall carpet using a power stretcher. This will make the material attach on the other side of the room onto the tacks.
5.      Finish trimming, where the vent openings are. Measure the area where your vents are and cut out the piece using the carpeting cutter. Place the cover over the vents and you should be finished.

Congratulations, you have just finished installing your new look. don't forget to have it professionally steam cleaned once a year, depending on use.

What to consider before buying a rug.

Purchasing a rug is not something that happens very often. Before making the decision of the perfect rug, you will want to consider a number of factors, so that you can find the perfect rug for your home. There are different factors such as size, shape, color, pattern, style, and of course price.

There are different kinds of shapes when it comes to rugs. There are square rugs, oval, round, and octagonal. It can be very challenging to choose a shape, but everything will fall into place when you choose the size and the color. There are different colors for different types of rooms and the feel that you are trying to portray. Try to have the tone match a few of the furniture pieces you have around the house, and try to contrast it with the color of the room. Keep in mind, that whatever color you choose for your rug will look more intense in a larger area.  There are tons of styles to choose from, and you have to do this very carefully. Before buying the rug, take a picture of the style and color, and print it out on a piece of paper. Put the paper in the room that you are going to buy the rug for, and picture the actual rug there. If you think that it is a perfect fit go ahead and buy it, but if not try to choose what you think best suits your home. When considering the price, make sure you do not forget to compare it with other stores and other rugs of the similar size and pattern. A good rug will take the wear and tear, and keep in mind that this rug should be a long term purchase. Be prepared to shop around, and consider different options.

Student life.

Living away from home may be a challenging task. There are a lot more responsibilities and a student has to do their own laundry. Cook their own food, clean up the house or dorm, and of course study. Although it takes time to clean up once in a while, a student should always take care of their room. First of all if there is a carpet, the least you can do is vacuum it once a week. Every residence has a vacuum cleaner, and if they don't, they are not too expensive. Speaking from experience, vacuuming and steam cleaning carpet can prove very beneficial to your health and study habits. A clean room is very welcoming and when the room is dirty it is very hard to study. After you vacuum the carpet, just take a damp cloth and wipe down all of the surfaces that may gather dust. When there are a lot of dust particles in the air, you may have trouble sleeping, and may develop allergies or an allergic reaction.

A little tip to help clear the air is to take an empty mini garbage bin and fill it with water. Place it near your bed and just leave it there for the week. Water particles will go into the air, which makes it easier to breath in a dust filled room. Make sure to just clean up after yourself, throw away the trash, do your laundry, and fold your clothes. With a clean environment it will make studying easier and more enjoyable in a since.

The customer can also look up any type of product and compare it with others online. This option makes it easier to compare different items, especially for people that do not have a car to go to the store, and transport the rug.

There are a couple disadvantages to buying online too. There are times when the description does not match the item, and you have a very hard time trying to return it. The rug might also be a fake and there is no certain way of telling, unless it is taken to a professional. First, make sure that the floor that you are installing the carpet on is cleaned at and smooth. If there are any bumps on the ground, try to get rid of them as best as you can. Sweep up the whole floor so that it has absolutely no dust. Next, remove the doors so that you won't have to work around them. Proceed to install the tackless strip. Make sure that your are using the correct size so that the carpet is able to fit. After you are finished with that, install the carpet pad. Lay it out perpendicular to the direction that you want to install the carpet in. staple it with a staple hammer near the tackless strips. Trim the pad so that it lines up with the tackless strips and the tacks are exposed.
One of the most important parts is to trim the actual carpet to the size. Measure it 3 times before you cut the carpet, to make sure that it the measurements are correct. Lay down the carpet and trim the carpet so that it lines up with the walls. Leave 3 inches next to the wall,
